Societas Pro Fauna et Flora Fennica grants

Societas pro Fauna et Flora Fennica awards grants for research on the fauna or the flora of Finland, with emphasis on native taxa living in their natural habitat. Grants are primarily awarded to students working on their master’s or doctoral theses. As a rule, grants are not awarded for post doc studies. Students working on their MSc thesis may apply for research grants of up to 2,000 euros.

Students working on their PhD thesis may apply for research grants of up to 2,100 euros/month, for a time period of at most 6 months. PhD students who are members of Societas may additionally apply for a sum of up to 2,000 euros for such equipment and travel expenses that are related to the collection and presentation of their data. The same person can receive a research grant for the same purpose only twice, or (in exceptional cases) three times.

Recipients of grants that exceed 4,288.00 euros are required to take a MYEL pension insurance.

Time of application: 1 February – 28 February in the spring (1 February – 29 February during leap years), and 15 September – 15 October in the fall.

Please include with the application the following attachments:

– a research plan that is maximally 4 pages long (not including references)

– a budget in which it is clearly stated what the grant is intended for, as well as information on additional funding (if any)

– a CV

NB! All attachments should be included in one single file (in pdf or MS Word format). For the application, there is a specific form which can be accessed here during the application period.

Applicants who receive a grant from Societas are expected to send in a a report about the progress of the work before the end of the year during which the grant was received.
