Meetings are held in autumn (October) and four times in spring (February, March, April and May). Two meetings take place in Turku (Åbo), four in Helsinki (Helsingfors). Lectures dealing with different aspects of biological research or nature conservation are given at the meetings.

A one day symposium is organized annually in late November, normally comprising about ten lectures dealing with different aspects of a particular theme. Guest lecturers are invited from neighbouring, and sometimes even more remote countries. The symposia alternate between Helsingfors and Åbo.

An excursion is arranged in summer or early autumn. The length of the excursion varies between one and six days, and the places visited are biologically interesting sites in Finland or in adjacent countries.
