The Society
Societas pro Fauna et Flora Fennica is the oldest scientific society in Finland, founded on November 1, 1821. Its purpose is to augment the knowledge of Finnish plants and animals, and to promote zoological and botanical research as well as nature conservation. Each year, the society distributes grants in support of such activities.
The society publishes the journal Memoranda Societatis pro Fauna et Flora Fennica, primarily dedicated to the fauna and flora of Finland and Scandinavia.
